The rural area is for the most part private, with two little lines of shops, a little stop and an elementary school situated on the highest point of the level. Bilgola Beach on the eastern side highlights a surf club and booth. The rural area has perspectives of the shoreline and the sea on the eastern side, and perspectives of the waterway, Pittwater on the western side. Toward the north are suburbia of Avalon Beach, Whale Beach, and Palm Beach, with Careel Bay being a minor inlet in the middle of the last two. Toward the south are Newport, Mona Vale and Narrabeen.
